As long as I can remember, I drew---on the walls, floor, snow, window, drapes, shirts, table, school blackboard, under the carpet, my own palm... and, I cannot stop drawing, especially if it is on paper and more importantly, for children. |
To be honest, I wasn‘t always a painter, despite my aspirations. After graduating from secondary school, I continued my studies at the Art Department of Siauliai University. Soon I realized that I enjoyed painting cheerful characters much more than those serious-posing ladies, still life, and landscapes. To some people my hobby seemed foolish, to others – stupid. So many doubters made me believe that it is not a serious business to draw funny characters for kids – hence I became a designer. I did not enjoy this line of work from the very beginning, and I disliked it even more later on.
I missed those cheerful characters, stopped listening to others‘ advice, and returned to my old dream of becoming a children‘s artist. Soon, I had opened that dear drawer, found my long-forgotten desire, dusted it off, and let it fly. After reaching the sky, my dreams grew, expanding until fully realized. For the past seven years, I have collaborated with various publishers, who publish both fictional and educational literature for children. Now I never listen to anyone‘s advice, often revisiting that messy drawer of dreams. Who knows---maybe someday another dream will come true... |
